Description:

An amount in the Tanzanian Shilingi is written in the form of x/y. The x is the amount above 1 Shilingi and the y is the amount in Senti. An equal or hyphen sign represents  zero. For example, 50 Senti is written as =/50 or -/50, while 100 Shilingi is written as 100/= or 100/-. The denominations of the Shilingi coins come in 50, 100 and 200 Shilingi and banknotes in 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 and 10000 Shilingi.

The first issue of Tanzanian Shillings was designed by the British artist and coin designer Christopher Ironside. He also also designed the first decimal coins introduced to the UK in 1971.
