Lesotho loti

Worldwide use:

The Lesotho Loti is the official currency of Lesotho. One Lesotho Loti is worth 100 Lisente. The currency is pegged against the South African Rand at par and both currencies are used within Lesotho. Coins come in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 Lisente as well as 1, 2 and 5 Maloti (plural for Loti). Banknotes are issued in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 Lesotho Maloti.

The Central Bank of Lesotho issued a new set of Lesotho Loti banknotes on 1st March 2011 to coincide with its 30th anniversary. The aim was to curb fake banknotes.

The Lesotho Loti was introduced in 1966 but was not circulated until 1980 when the first coins were distributed alongside the South African Rand.
