## Cubic inches

Cubic inches are units of volume measurement used in the Imperial systems equal to the volume of a cube with sides that are each one inch in length. It is used in the United States for measuring small volumes, such as the displacement of an engine or the capacity of a container. One cubic inch is equivalent to approximately 16.387 cubic centimeters.

## Liters

A Liter is a metric volume unit equal to 1,000 cubic centimeters, 1 cubic decimeter or 33.814 fluid ounces in the imperial system. The volume is equivalent to a cube with 10cm on each of its sides.

Liters as a measurement unit can be traced back to the French revolution and the start of the metric system. Metric measurements created a standardized and decimal system of measures that would be easy to use.

When converting volume measurements, be sure to remember that the dimensions are cubed and so doubling the sides of a cube will increase the volume by a factor of eight.
