The currency of Kazakhstan is the Tenge which is made up of 100 Tïın. Kazakhstan was one of the last countries of the former Soviet Union to introduce their own national currency following independence. The Tenge was introduced on 15th November 1993. Banknotes are available in 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 and 10000 Tenge and coins are available in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 Tenge. Tenge means "a set of scales" which is a cultural reference to equal balance.
