Description:
The Uruguayan Peso is the official currency of Uruguay. The coinage comes in $1, $2, $5, $10 and $50 coins, with the banknotes coming in denominations of $20, $50, $100, $200, $500, $1000 and $2000 bills.
Due to instability of the Uruguayan Peso, most high end goods such as property, cars and salaries, are priced in US Dollars.
Origin:
Uruguayan monetary stability has seen a number of devaluations over the years. In 1993 the Peso Uruguayo replaced the Nuevo Peso at a rate of 1 new for 1000 old. The last Centéstimo coin, the 50 Cent, was withdrawn in July 2010.
