Surinamese dollar

Worldwide use:

Description:

As with the Dutch custom, the Surinamese currency is expressed on banknotes in the singular. The coinage comes in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25, 100 and 250 Cents and the banknotes come in 1, 2½, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 Dollar notes.

The prices of electrical goods, household furniture and automobiles are often given in US Dollars rather than Surinamese Dollars.

Origin:

In 2004 the Surinamese Guilder was replaced with the Dollar, with one Dollar being equal to 1000 Guilders. The old 1 Cent coins, equal to 100 Guilder, were converted to be worth their face value so that new coins did not have to be minted.
