Description:

The Nicaraguan Córdoba is the official currency of Nicaragua. One Nicaraguan Córdoba is made up of 100 Centavos. Coins are circulated in 5, 10, 25 and 50 Centavos as well as 1, 5 and 10 Córdobas. Banknotes come in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 Nicaraguan Córdobas.

The Nicaraguan Córdoba is named after the founder of Nicaragua, Francisco Hernández de Córdoba.

The Nicaraguan Peso was Nicaragua’s currency from 1878 to 1912, until, on 20 March 1912, the first Nicaraguan Córdoba was established. One Nicaraguan Córdoba was worth 12.5 Pesos. The second Nicaraguan Córdoba was launched in 1988 and was equal to 1000 of the original Nicaraguan Córdoba. In 1991 the third Nicaraguan Córdoba was established and was equal to 5,000,000 of the second version of Nicaraguan Córdobas.
