Description:
The Cayman Islands Dollar is the official currency of the Cayman Islands. Upon the creation of the currency only four banknotes were in circulation, $25, $10, $5 and $1 banknotes. In 1981 the $40 and $100 banknotes were introduced followed by the $50 in 1985. The coins have remained as the 1¢, 5¢, 10¢ and 25¢.
In 2014 the Cayman Dollar was the highest value dollar in the world with one Cayman Dollar being equal to 1.2 US Dollars.
Origin:
The first Cayman Islands currency was issued in 1971 to replace the Jamaican Dollar. From 1977 to 1984 the Cayman Island Dollar was minted by the Franklin Mint, U.S.A. From 1986 the coins were once more produced by the British Royal Mint.
